Overview: The RF modulator included in the tuner module allows you to listen to XM's programming through an unused FM frequency on your radio. If, in the future, you choose to replace your in-dash receiver with a Pioneer IP-Bus head unit with XM tuner controls, the tuner module can be connected directly to the Pioneer head unit; this set-up provides the added benefit of full frequency response playback. When the tuner module is connected directly to a Pioneer head unit, the included display/control switching units are not needed. In addition to this tuner, you must have a subscription to XM Radio and an XM-compatible antenna in order to receive the digital satellite radio signal.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

XM Satellite Radio: XM Satellite Radio programming will feature up to 100 channels of digital-quality music, news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming nationwide, many of which will be commercial-free. For a monthly subscription fee, you will be able to receive XM signals in your car.

Modulation Frequencies: The modulator has 12 FM modulation frequencies. You can select the following modulation frequencies from the wired control unit: 87.9, 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 88.9, 89.1, 89.3, 89.5, 89.7, 89.9 or 90.1MHz.

Source Level Adjustment: The source level adjustment allows you to match the XM radio output level with the FM level. You can select one of seven different levels. The adjustment must be made from the wired control unit.

Operation Modes: The tuner has two operation modes, Add-On and IP-Bus. In Add-On mode, you can listen to XM's programming through an unused FM frequency on your radio using the built-in FM modulator. In IP-Bus mode, you can control the tuner with a compatible Pioneer IP-Bus head unit; an optional IP-Bus cable (item 130CDIP600, sold separately) is required to control the tuner with a compatible head unit. When used in IP-Bus mode with a compatible head unit, you will get full frequency response.

Selecting Channels: The tuner allows you to select channels by number or category. Channels are organized into various program categories. You can search between the different categories and then search among the channels within each category.

Optional Line Output: If your head unit has an AUX input, the optional Pioneer CD-RB10 adapter (item 130CDRB10) may be connected to the IP-Bus output of the XM Satellite Radio tuner module to send fixed line level audio signals to your head unit's auxiliary input. The line level audio signals bypass the FM modulator in the XM tuner, so you can listen to XM Satellite Radio with better frequency response and dynamic range. With the CD-RB10 connected, you'll still need to use the wired remote/display to control the tuner. Depending on the type of AUX input connection found on your head unit, an RCA-to-RCA or RCA-to-mini-jack patch cable will be needed to connect the adapter to your head unit's AUX input.

Controls On GEX-FM903XM Wired Control Unit:

Ø      Power: allow you to turn the power on and off

Ø      Mode: allow you to choose the Channel Number Select mode or the Channel Category Select mode

Ø      Cursor Keys (up/down/left/right): the cursor keys allow you to cycle through the individual channels, channel categories, and preset channels

Ø      Display: allows you to cycle through the following display modes: Channel Number, Channel Name, Artist Name/Feature, Song/Program Title, and Additional Information. If the Additional Information is longer than the length of the display, you can scroll the text by pressing the display button for 2 seconds.

Ø      Band: allow you to cycle through the XM bands

Ø      Presets (1-6): the preset buttons allows you to store and recall preset channels
